Adherence
A multi-component lifestyle intervention delivered via telephone coaching, targeting weight loss, healthy eating, and physical activity, effectively delays or prevents the onset of type 2 diabetes in women with a history of gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM).
If you had gestational diabetes, your risk of type 2 diabetes remains high after birth, even if your blood sugar normalized during pregnancy. You can significantly lower this risk by adopting a lifestyle program focused on gradual weight loss (aiming for 5% of body weight), eating whole foods (limiting ultra-processed items, sugars, and processed meats), and increasing daily movement (targeting 7,500 steps or 150 minutes of activity per week). This program is designed to fit into your life as a new mother, using phone coaching and text messages to keep you on track without requiring extensive time away from your baby.
Our aim is to conduct a multicenter randomized controlled trial to investigate the effectiveness of a lifestyle intervention program implemented after a pregnancy complicated by GDM in delaying or preventing the development of type 2 diabetes.
