For people with diabetes, current evidence suggests that restricting saturated fat does not prevent heart disease. Instead, focus on reducing refined carbohydrates and sugars, which drive the production of atherogenic small dense LDL particles. Prioritize unsaturated fats and whole foods over low-fat processed options.
The simple fact is dietary saturated fat does not increase blood levels of cholesterol and cause CHD. It is now time to retire that theory and concentrate on researching and recommending a diet to people with diabetes that will benefit their health and reduce risk of morbidity and mortality.
