High body weight increases pressure inside your kidneys (hyperfiltration), which damages them over time. This happens even if you don't have diabetes or high blood pressure. To protect your kidneys, focus on reducing visceral fat through diet and exercise, as this lowers the mechanical and hormonal stress on your kidney filters.
In individuals affected by obesity, a compensatory hyperfiltration occurs to meet the heightened metabolic demands of the increased body weight. The increase in intraglomerular pressure can damage the kidneys and raise the risk of developing Chronic Kidney Disease in the long-term.
