Adherence
Patients with overweight or obesity perceive a 10% total body weight-loss as the threshold for a meaningful and noticeable improvement in physical functioning, whereas a 5% loss is often considered insufficient.
If you are aiming for weight loss to improve how you feel physically, aim for at least 10% of your total body weight. Losing 5% might help your health metrics, but many people do not feel a noticeable difference in their daily physical function or energy levels until they reach the 10% mark.
Most participants (n = 23/33) expected a 5% total body weight-loss to yield some benefit in physical functioning, while all participants expected a 10% weight-loss to provide a meaningful and noticeable improvement in their physical functioning.
Why this rating
Based on a qualitative study with a small sample size (n=33) and theoretical scenarios rather than longitudinal outcome data.
