Carrying the G alleles of ALPK1 polymorphisms rs2074388 or rs2074379 significantly increases the susceptibility to developing type 2 diabetes mellitus in Japanese individuals.

If you are of Japanese descent, knowing you carry specific ALPK1 variants (rs2074388 or rs2074379) means you have a higher genetic risk for type 2 diabetes.
