Focus on building your muscles' ability to burn energy (aerobic fitness and mitochondrial density) rather than just avoiding intramuscular fat. High-intensity endurance training significantly improves oxidative capacity, which is strongly linked to better insulin sensitivity, regardless of how much fat is stored in the muscle.
Furthermore, skeletal muscle oxidative capacity was a better predictor of insulin sensitivity than either TGm concentration or long-chain fatty acyl CoA content.
