Obesity (BMI > 30) in early-stage chronic kidney disease (CKD) causes or worsens CKD through obesity-associated nephropathy (OAN), characterized by glomerular hypertrophy, hyperfiltration, albuminuria, and focal segmental glomerulosclerosis (FSGS).
If you have a BMI over 30 and are in early stages of kidney disease, your weight is likely actively damaging your kidneys through inflammation and high blood pressure in the kidney filters.
