Adherence

Clinic-based behavioral lifestyle counseling and/or education promotes modest but statistically significant weight loss in individuals with newly diagnosed type 2 diabetes, even with low adherence (1-2 sessions).

If you have newly diagnosed type 2 diabetes, attending even a single 60-90 minute lifestyle counseling session can help you lose about 6 pounds. You do not need to attend dozens of sessions to see a benefit; starting with one or two sessions is a highly effective first step.

ModerateSupportsMEDIUM confidence
Our findings suggest that even a small “dose” of formal behavioral lifestyle counseling and/or education (i.e., attending one session) offered at outpatient clinics can be beneficial and promotes modest weight loss.
