GLP-1 receptor agonists (e.g., semaglutide, liraglutide) improve MASH resolution but do not significantly improve liver fibrosis in patients with compensated cirrhosis.
Semaglutide (2.4mg weekly) helps resolve MASH but does not reverse fibrosis in patients with cirrhosis. It is effective for weight loss and glucose control but should not be relied upon to fix advanced scarring alone.

Another clinical trial published in 2021 showed that treatment with semaglutide resulted in a significantly higher percentage of MASH resolution with no worsening of fibrosis, compared with placebo. However, in a randomized, placebo-controlled phase 2 trial, semaglutide (2.4 mg once weekly) was used to treat patients with MASH-related cirrhosis. After 48 weeks, there was no significant improvement in liver fibrosis by one stage or more without worsening of MASH...

- Initial treatment for type 2 diabetes should be a combination of metformin and either an SGLT-2 inhibitor or a GLP-1 receptor agonist to achieve cardiorenal protection, rather than monotherapy or older agents like sulfonylureas.Strong

- Continued weekly administration of 2.4 mg subcutaneous semaglutide prevents weight regain and promotes further weight loss in adults with overweight or obesity, whereas switching to placebo results in significant weight regain.Strong
