Acute resistance training enhances or maintains cognitive performance (specifically visuospatial processing) in healthy older adults, regardless of exercise intensity.
For older adults, engaging in a single session of resistance training (whether heavy or light) can boost visuospatial processing skills without causing mental fatigue. You do not need to avoid weights due to fear of 'brain drain'; starting with lighter weights is just as effective for cognitive benefits as heavier weights.
Acute RT enhanced or maintained cognitive performance in older adults. Significant improvements were found on visuospatial processing in G1 (High-intensity) and G2 (Low-intensity)... Processing speed, executive function and cognitive control, working memory and immediate memory were unchanged by acute exercise or rest.
