In obese men with metabolic syndrome, weight loss decreases HDL apoA-I production and catabolism by equal amounts, resulting in no net change in plasma HDL cholesterol concentrations.

Don't be discouraged if your HDL numbers don't jump after losing weight. This study shows that weight loss can improve how your body handles cholesterol (LDL) without necessarily raising HDL levels, which is still beneficial for heart health.

it also decreased both the catabolic (-13%) and production (-13%) rates of HDL apoA-I (P < 0.05), thereby not altering plasma HDL apoA-I or HDL cholesterol concentrations.
