High-intensity aerobic interval training (AIT) is superior to continuous moderate exercise (CME) for reversing metabolic syndrome risk factors, including improving aerobic capacity, endothelial function, and insulin sensitivity, when training volumes are equated.
If you have metabolic syndrome, high-intensity interval training (AIT) is more effective than moderate continuous exercise for reversing risk factors like high blood pressure and insulin resistance, provided you do the same amount of total work. AIT involves short bursts at 90% of your max heart rate. While it feels harder, it yields better metabolic improvements than steady-state moderate exercise.
The present study demonstrates that high-intensity exercise training is superior to moderate-intensity training in reversing risk factors of the metabolic syndrome.
