Testosterone replacement therapy (200 mg i.m. every 2 weeks) improves insulin sensitivity, glycemic control, and reduces visceral adiposity in hypogonadal men with type 2 diabetes.
If you are a man with type 2 diabetes and low testosterone, testosterone replacement therapy (specifically 200mg injections every two weeks) can significantly improve your body's ability to use insulin, lower your blood sugar levels, and reduce belly fat. This may help you manage your diabetes better and potentially reduce your need for insulin, without negatively affecting your blood pressure. Always consult your doctor to determine if you are hypogonadal and if this therapy is safe for you.
Testosterone therapy reduced the HOMA index... indicating an improved fasting insulin sensitivity. Glycated haemoglobin was also reduced... as was the fasting blood glucose... Testosterone treatment resulted in a reduction in visceral adiposity as assessed by waist circumference... and waist/hip ratio.
Why this rating
Double-blind, placebo-controlled crossover design with a small sample size (n=24, n=14 for primary outcomes).

- Initial treatment for type 2 diabetes should be a combination of metformin and either an SGLT-2 inhibitor or a GLP-1 receptor agonist to achieve cardiorenal protection, rather than monotherapy or older agents like sulfonylureas.Strong
- For patients with specific monogenic obesity syndromes (leptin deficiency, POMC/PCSK1/LEPR mutations), targeted pharmacotherapy (recombinant leptin or setmelanotide) is highly effective and should be prioritized, unlike in polygenic obesity.Strong
- Continued weekly administration of 2.4 mg subcutaneous semaglutide prevents weight regain and promotes further weight loss in adults with overweight or obesity, whereas switching to placebo results in significant weight regain.Strong
