Hormonal

Among obese individuals with normal fasting glucose, higher visceral fat, fructosamine, and insulin levels are independently associated with the composite outcome of incident prediabetes or diabetes.

If you are obese but have normal fasting glucose, you are not necessarily safe from diabetes. Look deeper: check your visceral fat, insulin levels, and fructosamine. These markers can identify risk even when standard glucose tests appear normal.
