In healthy men, restricting dietary phosphorus to low-normal levels (625 mg/d) significantly decreases serum FGF-23 concentrations compared to control (1500 mg/d) or high-normal (2300 mg/d) intakes, while increasing 1,25(OH)2D levels.

For healthy men, maintaining a normal dietary phosphorus intake (around 1500 mg/day) is sufficient to regulate FGF-23 and vitamin D metabolism. Extreme restriction (625 mg/day) lowers FGF-23 and raises active Vitamin D, but this is a physiological response to restriction, not necessarily a health benefit. There is no need to restrict phosphorus in healthy individuals.
