Cocoa supplementation with high flavanol content significantly reduces systolic and diastolic blood pressure in individuals with metabolic syndrome or borderline hypertension.
To lower blood pressure, consume cocoa products that are specifically high in flavanols. Standard chocolate often lacks sufficient flavanols or contains too much sugar. Look for high-flavanol cocoa powders or dark chocolate with high cocoa content. This intervention works by improving blood vessel function via nitric oxide.
