Strawberry polyphenols (specifically anthocyanins and flavanols) inhibit the progression of precancerous esophageal lesions and reduce risk of head/neck cancer through NF-kB suppression.
If you have precancerous esophageal lesions, incorporating 60g of freeze-dried strawberry powder daily for 6 months may help inhibit lesion progression by suppressing key inflammatory pathways like NF-kB. Consult your doctor for a personalized plan.
ModerateSupportsMEDIUM confidence
freeze-dried strawberry powder has shown a preventive effect in a Phase II clinical investigation for 75 subjects diagnosed with esophageal dysplastic premalignant lesion, demonstrating that dietary intake of strawberries (60 g/day for 6 months) is able to inhibit the progression of precancerous lesions in a dose dependent way, via the suppression of NF-ĸB activation and the down-regulation of COX-2 and iNOS.
Why this rating
Based on a Phase II clinical trial (n=75) and cohort studies; strong for specific populations but less generalizable.

- Consumption of strawberries (approx. 50g freeze-dried powder or 500g fresh daily) significantly attenuates postprandial inflammatory responses (CRP, IL-6) and improves insulin sensitivity in overweight adults.Good
- Regular strawberry consumption (approx. 500g fresh or equivalent extract) improves lipid profiles by reducing LDL and triglycerides, and enhances antioxidant status in healthy and hypertensive populations.Good
