Extremely low volume high-intensity interval training (HIT) consisting of 6 sessions of 4-6 x 30s sprints over 2 weeks substantially improves insulin action and glucose homeostasis in sedentary young males.
Perform 6 sessions of high-intensity interval training over two weeks. Each session involves 4 to 6 all-out 30-second cycling sprints with 4 minutes of rest between sprints. This takes less than 15 minutes total per week and has been shown to significantly improve insulin sensitivity in sedentary young men.
We demonstrate for the first time that only a few minutes of high intensity interval exercise performed over two weeks is required to substantially improve both insulin action and glucose homeostasis in sedentary young males.
