By deacetylating PGC-1α, SIRT1 has been shown to up-regulate its activity, thus potentiating increases in PGC-1α-dependent processes in cells... I speculate that SIRT1-mediated mitochondrial biogenesis may reduce the production of reactive oxygen species, a possible cause of aging.
