Your gut bacteria play a key role in training your immune system. Eating a diet high in fiber and low in processed sugars and saturated fats helps maintain a healthy microbiome, which supports regulatory T-cells that prevent autoimmune and allergic diseases. Probiotics alone are unlikely to fix immune issues if your diet remains unhealthy.

Alterations in the microbiome have been shown in both mice and (to a less extensive degree) humans to affect Treg development... reduction in Treg signal is associated with worse outcomes in infection control, autoimmunity, allergic sensitization... Therefore, dietary choices that alter gut microbiome likely alter systemic responses through changes in the number and function of regulatory T cells.
