Adherence
Lifestyle physical activity interventions, such as increasing daily step counts, can improve fibromyalgia symptoms and pain levels, although long-term maintenance of these benefits may be challenging without ongoing support.
Try to increase your daily step count gradually. Using a pedometer can help track progress. While this can improve symptoms in the short term, consider combining it with structured exercise for long-term benefits.
ModerateQualifiesMEDIUM confidence
In this 12-week trial, individuals randomly assigned to the lifestyle physical activity group increased their average daily pedometer step count by 54% and reported improved fibromyalgia symptoms (FIQ total score) and lower pain levels compared to the education group.
Why this rating
Based on a single RCT (Fontaine et al.) with follow-up showing loss of benefit.
