Chronic low-dose aspartame consumption impairs insulin-stimulated glucose disposal and elevates fasting glucose in diet-induced obese rats, independent of changes in body composition.

Even at low doses, chronic aspartame consumption may worsen blood sugar control and insulin sensitivity, regardless of weight loss.
