Sustained sleep curtailment (less than 6 hours per night) causally increases the risk of developing type 2 diabetes, hypertension, obesity, and cardiovascular disease through hormonal dysregulation, insulin resistance, and vascular changes.
Prioritize getting 7-8 hours of sleep every night as a non-negotiable health intervention. Chronic sleep restriction (less than 6 hours) is as dangerous for your heart and metabolism as obesity or smoking. You cannot simply 'catch up' on weekends to reverse the long-term metabolic damage. Treat sleep duration with the same seriousness as diet and exercise.
Prolonged curtailment of sleep duration is a risk factor for the development of obesity, diabetes, hypertension, heart disease and stroke and may contribute, in the long-term, to premature death.
