Metformin treatment produces comparable weight loss across all race-gender groups, including Black women, unlike lifestyle interventions.
If you are Black and struggling with weight loss through lifestyle changes alone, Metformin may offer a more equitable outcome compared to White or Hispanic peers. It produces modest but consistent weight loss across all groups. Discuss this option with your doctor, especially if you have impaired glucose tolerance.
