Weight loss in obese men reduces circulating levels of IL-6 and TNF-alpha, which correlates with improved insulin sensitivity, but paradoxically increases circulating IL-8 levels.

For obese men, significant weight loss (approx 15% body weight) improves insulin sensitivity and reduces specific inflammatory cytokines (IL-6, TNF-alpha). However, be aware that IL-8 levels may paradoxically rise during this process. This rise in IL-8 does not appear to negate the metabolic benefits (insulin sensitivity) gained from the weight loss, likely due to complex release mechanisms from fat tissue or other inflammatory sources.
