Hormonal

Long-term use of GLP-1 receptor agonists (semaglutide 2.4mg or tirzepatide 15mg) produces significant weight loss (4-21%) and improved cardiometabolic markers, but discontinuation leads to rapid weight regain and increased cardiac risk.

GLP-1 agonists like Wegovy and Mounjaro are highly effective for significant weight loss (up to 20%) when taken long-term. However, they are not a 'cure'; stopping the medication typically results in weight regain and increased heart disease risk. If you use these, view them as a long-term tool alongside lifestyle changes, not a quick fix.

GoodSupportsHIGH confidence
patients who discontinued the medication had a 30–33% increased risk of cardiac disorders compared to patients who continued to take the medication... patients with diabetes on average were able to lose 4–6.2% of their total weight (and nondiabetics up to 17.4%) with long-term (>1 year) use of this medication... discontinuation results in weight gain.
