Menopausal hormone therapy (MHT) reduces the risk of developing type 2 diabetes and improves diabetes control, primarily by reducing central adiposity and increasing insulin sensitivity.
MHT may help prevent type 2 diabetes in postmenopausal women by improving insulin sensitivity and reducing abdominal fat. However, this benefit only lasts while you are taking the therapy.
GoodSupportsHIGH confidence
Most randomized, controlled trials have shown that menopausal hormone therapy (MHT) is associated with a reduction in central adiposity and an increase in insulin sensitivity.
Why this rating
Based on RCTs (WHI) showing reduced diabetes risk.
