Adhering to a self-prescribed low-carbohydrate diet (LCD) with <100g carbohydrates per day leads to significant improvements in Type 2 Diabetes management, including reduced HbA1c, weight loss, and medication reduction, driven by reduced hunger and improved metabolic control.
If you have Type 2 Diabetes and feel your current treatment plan (medication + standard high-carb advice) isn't working or you want to reduce medication, consider a self-prescribed low-carbohydrate diet of under 100g carbs per day. Monitor your HbA1c and weight. Use online communities for support if your healthcare provider is unsupportive. Be prepared to educate family members who may not understand your dietary choices.
All the participants claimed that their LCD had improved their T2DM. All respondents reported that their HbA1c levels had dropped significantly... The majority of participants also reported weight loss... Many wanted to avoid relying on medication, particularly insulin.
Why this rating

- Initial treatment for type 2 diabetes should be a combination of metformin and either an SGLT-2 inhibitor or a GLP-1 receptor agonist to achieve cardiorenal protection, rather than monotherapy or older agents like sulfonylureas.Strong
- For patients with specific monogenic obesity syndromes (leptin deficiency, POMC/PCSK1/LEPR mutations), targeted pharmacotherapy (recombinant leptin or setmelanotide) is highly effective and should be prioritized, unlike in polygenic obesity.Strong
- Continued weekly administration of 2.4 mg subcutaneous semaglutide prevents weight regain and promotes further weight loss in adults with overweight or obesity, whereas switching to placebo results in significant weight regain.Strong
