In very old community-living men, higher baseline serum IGF-1 levels predict smaller losses in fat-free mass (FFM) over a 2-year period, suggesting anabolic protection against sarcopenia.

If you are an older man concerned about muscle loss, your natural hormone levels (specifically IGF-1) play a crucial role in preserving muscle mass. While you should still maintain physical activity and adequate protein, this research suggests that hormonal decline is a major driver of sarcopenia in this age group.
