Adherence
Multi-level workplace health promotion interventions combining physical activity and/or nutrition with organizational and environmental changes significantly reduce absenteeism.
To reduce absenteeism, employers should implement multi-level health programs that combine individual counseling with organizational and environmental changes, such as providing healthy food options and flexible work policies. These interventions are most effective when sustained over longer periods (e.g., >12 months).
Fourteen workplace nutrition and physical activity intervention studies yielded statistically significant changes on absenteeism (n = 7)... The scientific evidence shows that it is possible to influence work-related outcomes, especially absenteeism, positively through health promotion efforts that include components aimed at the workplace’s physical work environment and organizational structure.
Why this rating
The review includes 39 studies, but only 14 showed significant effects, and many had moderate or unclear risk of bias.
