Flutamide, when added to a hypocaloric diet, significantly reduces visceral adipose tissue (VAT), androgen levels (androstenedione, DHEA-S, testosterone), and hirsutism scores in obese women with PCOS, independent of weight loss magnitude.
If you have PCOS and struggle with excess hair growth (hirsutism) or visceral belly fat, adding flutamide (250mg twice daily) to your diet plan can specifically target these issues. It works by blocking androgens, which drive hair growth and belly fat storage. This benefit is distinct from general weight loss.
In particular, flutamide treatment seemed to add a significant effect in decreasing visceral fat, androstenedione, DHEA-S, total and low density lipoprotein (LDL) cholesterol and in improving hirsutism.
Why this rating
Randomized controlled trial showing statistically significant differences in specific hormonal and anthropometric markers for the flutamide group.

- Hypocaloric dieting is the primary driver for improving insulin sensitivity and reducing hyperinsulinaemia in obese women with PCOS, whereas pharmacological interventions (metformin, flutamide) provide no significant additional benefit for these specific metabolic markers.Good
- Metformin, when added to a hypocaloric diet, significantly improves menstrual status (frequency of cycles) in obese women with PCOS, independent of its lack of additional benefit on insulin sensitivity or visceral fat loss compared to diet alone.Good
