A structured 3-month aerobic exercise training program significantly improves cardiopulmonary functional capacity (VO2max), insulin sensitivity, and reduces inflammatory markers (CRP) in young overweight women with Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS).
If you have PCOS and are overweight, a structured 3-month aerobic exercise program (like cycling) at 60-70% of your max effort, 3 times a week, can significantly improve your heart and lung capacity, insulin sensitivity, and reduce inflammation. You do not need a strict diet, just general healthy eating habits.
After 3-month ET, PCOS-T showed a significant improvement in peak oxygen consumption ((cid:1)35.4%; P (cid:2) 0.001) and in maximal workload ((cid:1)37.2%; P (cid:2) 0.001)... In PCOS-T we also observed a significant reduction in body mass index ((cid:3)4.5%; P (cid:2) 0.001) and in C-reactive protein ((cid:3)10%; P (cid:2) 0.001), and a significant (P (cid:2) 0.001) improvement in insulin sensitivity indexes.
Why this rating
Randomized controlled trial with a relatively large sample size (n=90) and clear statistical significance, though limited to a specific demographic.

- Initial treatment for type 2 diabetes should be a combination of metformin and either an SGLT-2 inhibitor or a GLP-1 receptor agonist to achieve cardiorenal protection, rather than monotherapy or older agents like sulfonylureas.Strong
- For patients with specific monogenic obesity syndromes (leptin deficiency, POMC/PCSK1/LEPR mutations), targeted pharmacotherapy (recombinant leptin or setmelanotide) is highly effective and should be prioritized, unlike in polygenic obesity.Strong
- Continued weekly administration of 2.4 mg subcutaneous semaglutide prevents weight regain and promotes further weight loss in adults with overweight or obesity, whereas switching to placebo results in significant weight regain.Strong
