In patients with type 1 diabetes, consuming moderate alcohol (approx. 6.8 units) in the evening significantly increases the risk of next-morning hypoglycemia, specifically after breakfast.
If you have Type 1 Diabetes and drink alcohol in the evening, you are at high risk for dangerous low blood sugar the next morning, especially after breakfast. To stay safe, reduce your breakfast insulin dose, eat a carbohydrate-rich breakfast, and monitor your blood glucose frequently starting from the morning until midday.
We found that the consumption of a moderate amount of alcohol 2–3 h after an evening meal greatly increased the likelihood of hypoglycemia after breakfast the following morning.
Why this rating
Controlled clinical trial with rigorous insulin infusion protocols, but limited by a very small sample size (n=6).

- Initial treatment for type 2 diabetes should be a combination of metformin and either an SGLT-2 inhibitor or a GLP-1 receptor agonist to achieve cardiorenal protection, rather than monotherapy or older agents like sulfonylureas.Strong

- Continued weekly administration of 2.4 mg subcutaneous semaglutide prevents weight regain and promotes further weight loss in adults with overweight or obesity, whereas switching to placebo results in significant weight regain.Strong
