Moderate-to-vigorous physical activity (MVPA) is associated with lower fasting plasma glucose and reduced prevalence of pre-diabetes in middle-aged adults, but this association is largely confounded by age and BMI, rendering the independent effect of MVPA on glucose levels statistically non-significant after adjustment.

For middle-aged adults, simply increasing physical activity may not be enough to significantly lower fasting glucose if you are older or have a higher BMI. The benefits of exercise on blood sugar are largely mediated by weight loss and age. Focus on a holistic approach that includes weight management alongside activity, rather than relying on exercise alone to correct pre-diabetes.
