Hormonal

GIPR agonism mitigates the gastrointestinal adverse effects (nausea/vomiting) associated with GLP-1R agonism, thereby allowing for higher maximal tolerated doses of GLP-1-based therapies.

If you are struggling with nausea on a GLP-1 drug, switching to a combination GIP/GLP-1 drug might allow you to take a higher dose without more side effects. The GIP component helps cancel out the nausea caused by the GLP-1 component.

GoodSupportsHIGH confidence
GIPR agonism in adjunct to GLP-1R agonism mitigates the GI adverse event profile of GLP-1R pharmacology to ultimately increase both patient compliance and maximal practical dosage.

Why this rating

Supported by animal models and clinical trial discontinuation data, though exact human mechanism is noted as warranting clarification.
