Pharmacotherapy with semaglutide (1 mg/week) and/or metformin (0.5g 3x/day) combined with lifestyle interventions produces weight loss comparable to low-carbohydrate diets and balanced diets at 3 months, despite potentially faster initial results.

Pharmacotherapy (semaglutide/metformin) combined with lifestyle changes is an effective weight loss strategy that yields similar results to dietary changes after 3 months. It is not just for 'severe' cases but can be a valid option for those struggling with diet alone.

At 2 months, patients who received the low-carbohydrate diet (8.86 (6.45, 10.84) %) and pharmacotherapy (8.16 (5.79, 9.68) %) achieved a higher percentage weight loss than those who received balanced dietary guidance (6.77 (3.72, 8.65) %) (P < 0.01). At 3 months, there was no significant differences among groups for the percentage of weight loss (P = 0.362).
