Adherence
Precision nutrition and individualized interventions may not be sufficient to address obesity at a population level without addressing broader social, economic, and environmental determinants.
When seeking to improve health, look beyond individual diet plans. Advocate for and support policies that make healthy food affordable and accessible, and address social determinants like income and housing, as these are critical for long-term success.
ModerateQualifiesMEDIUM confidence
EO agreed that this is important data and furthered the point to highlight that the variability could also be explained by factors that reside outside the individual's control. This would mean that broader predictors need to be considered including physical, social, economic and political environments enabling, or inhibiting, individuals’ ability to implement and adopt change.
Why this rating
Based on expert debate and synthesis of current literature, not a single clinical trial.

- The modern food environment, characterized by cheap, highly processed, and palatable foods, promotes overconsumption and makes it difficult to reduce calorie intake below requirements, contributing to the obesity epidemic.Good
- Food reformulation and innovation can contribute to reducing obesity if products are affordable, palatable, and sustainably consumed, but face barriers related to cost, consumer perception, and technical feasibility.Moderate
