Selective reduction of dietary fat (but not carbohydrate) in adults with obesity decreases striatal dopamine D2/3 receptor binding potential and neural activity to food cues, leading to increased consumption of hyperpalatable foods high in both fat and carbohydrate.

If you are trying to lose weight by cutting fat, be aware that your brain may biologically respond by increasing the 'reward signal' (dopamine) for high-fat, high-carb foods. This doesn't mean you lack willpower; it means your brain is signaling a stronger desire for those specific foods. To counter this, you might need to be extra mindful of hyperpalatable foods (high sugar + high fat) when following a low-fat diet, as your brain may be primed to seek them out more aggressively than if you had restricted carbohydrates instead.
