Macro partitioning
GLP-1RA users often underconsume protein relative to their increased needs for preserving lean mass during rapid weight loss, despite protein percentage of calories being within the Acceptable Macronutrient Distribution Range (AMDR).
Even if your protein percentage looks fine, you are likely not eating enough grams of protein to protect your muscles while losing weight rapidly on GLP-1RA. Aim for 1.2-2.0 g of protein per kg of body weight daily. Prioritize lean protein sources in every small meal.
ModerateQualifiesMEDIUM confidence
Protein intake (% total calories) was within the AMDR, however based on a g/kg/day, protein intake was significantly under daily needs.
Why this rating
Self-reported data; however, the discrepancy between % calories and g/kg is a clear finding.

More from this paper
- Patients using GLP-1 receptor agonists (GLP-1RA) for weight loss consistently fail to meet Dietary Reference Intakes (DRI) for key micronutrients (fiber, calcium, iron, magnesium, potassium, choline, vitamins A, C, D, E, K) and MyPlate food group servings (fruit, vegetables, grains, dairy).Moderate
- GLP-1RA users tend to overconsume saturated fat and total fat percentages, potentially exacerbating gastrointestinal side effects like nausea and constipation.Moderate
