While obesity increases the risk of developing kidney disease, some studies show that obese patients on dialysis may live longer than thin patients. This 'obesity paradox' might be because they have more muscle mass or nutritional reserves to fight illness. However, preventing kidney disease by maintaining a healthy weight is still the best strategy.
