A 9-month combined aerobic and resistance exercise program does not reduce skeletal muscle macrophage accumulation in obese individuals with type 2 diabetes.
If you have type 2 diabetes and are obese, doing 9 months of combined aerobic and resistance exercise is excellent for improving blood sugar control, but do not expect it to significantly reduce the number of inflammatory cells (macrophages) in your skeletal muscle. The metabolic benefits are real, even if the structural inflammation markers remain unchanged.
A 9-month exercise program was not associated with a decrease in macrophage content.
