Supplemental Vitamin D intake (≥400 IU/day) is associated with a lower risk of type 2 diabetes, whereas total or dietary Vitamin D intake is not significantly associated after adjusting for other dietary factors.
If you are a woman, taking a Vitamin D supplement providing at least 400 IU daily may be associated with a modestly lower risk of type 2 diabetes compared to not taking such supplements. However, simply eating Vitamin D-rich foods may not provide the same protective association in this study.
