Serum leptin levels correlate with subcutaneous (sc) adipose tissue volume, not visceral adipose tissue volume, in Asian Indian men.
Leptin levels reflect subcutaneous fat stores, not the dangerous visceral fat that drives insulin resistance. Do not use leptin as a proxy for visceral adiposity or metabolic risk in Asian Indian men. Focus on visceral fat reduction strategies instead.

In contrast to glucose disposal, fasting serum leptin levels were highly correlated with sc, but not visceral, adipose tissue (r = 0.89, P < 0.0001 and r = 0.37; P = NS).
