For older adults, maintaining higher levels of long-chain omega-3s (specifically EPA and DHA) is linked to a roughly 50% lower risk of developing congestive heart failure. This is best achieved through dietary sources like oily fish, as indicated by blood biomarker levels, rather than relying solely on self-reported diet. While this is observational data, it supports current guidelines to consume fish, especially oily fish, at least twice a week.
