Adherence
Using technology-based self-monitoring tools alone (without phone intervention) does not significantly improve weight loss or adherence compared to traditional self-monitoring tools in the short term.
Using a fitness tracker and calorie app alone may not lead to significantly better weight loss than using paper logs and a basic pedometer. To get the most benefit, consider adding brief phone check-ins with a health coach to help you stay consistent.
ModerateRefutesMEDIUM confidence
weight loss in TECH (−4.1 ± 1.4 kg) was between ST (−1.3 ± 1.2 kg) and TECH + PHONE (−6.4 ± 1.2 kg)... weight losses in the TECH group (−4.04 ± 1.37 kg; −4.35 ± 1.29%) did not differ significantly from either the TECH + PHONE or SC groups, Ps >0.05.
Why this rating
Same limitations as N1 (pilot study, small sample).
