Energy balance

Sibutramine (10-30 mg/day) produces significant weight loss in overweight women primarily through appetite suppression (anorectic effect) rather than by increasing Resting Metabolic Rate (RMR).

Sibutramine is an effective weight-loss drug for overweight women, but it works by reducing appetite, not by speeding up your metabolism. Expect to lose about 7-8% of body weight over 8 weeks when combined with a controlled diet (1200 kcal/day). Do not rely on it to increase your resting energy expenditure.

GoodRefutesHIGH confidence
In summary, while sibutramine was shown to be an effective weight-loss agent over 8 weeks, we found no evidence that it increased RMR.
