Brainstem cholecystokinin-expressing (CCKAP/NTS) neurons are necessary for GLP-1 receptor agonists to induce conditioned taste avoidance (nausea/aversive effects).

The nausea and aversion caused by GLP-1 medications are mediated by specific brainstem neurons (CCKAP/NTS). Blocking these neurons prevents the aversive response, confirming that nausea is a central brain effect, not just a stomach issue.
