Sustained positive energy balance (energy intake exceeding energy expenditure) is the primary driver of obesity and weight gain.
To lose weight, you must consume fewer calories than you burn. While the quality of your diet (e.g., Mediterranean patterns, limiting sugary drinks) helps manage hunger and health, the fundamental requirement for weight loss is a sustained negative energy balance.
