Adherence

Mobile health (m-Health) interventions using push notifications and real-time data capture can significantly increase daily step counts compared to control groups without such interventions.

Use a fitness tracker with push notifications to increase your daily steps. Be aware that while this works for short-term increases in activity, long-term adherence may be difficult without additional support systems like gamification or social features.

ModerateSupportsMEDIUM confidence
Results showed that the intervention group, who received push-notifications, had significantly higher step counts than their control counterparts (Zhou et al. 2018).

Why this rating

Based on a single cited trial (Zhou et al. 2018) within a review paper; the paper itself notes that usefulness of trackers is disputed and behavior change may be short-lived.
