Weight loss of 7-10% of body weight leads to significant resolution of NASH and fibrosis regression in patients with NAFLD.

To reverse fatty liver disease and NASH, you need to lose 7-10% of your body weight. If you have advanced fibrosis, aim for over 10% loss. Start with a daily calorie deficit of 500-1000 kcal and aim for at least 150 minutes of exercise per week. Even losing 3-5% helps reduce liver fat and improves insulin sensitivity, so don't wait for the full 10% to see benefits.

a weight loss of 7–10% can lead to significant rates of resolution of NASH due to the amelioration of hepatic inflammation... a >10% reduction of the body weight was associated with fibrosis regression

Why this rating

Supported by prospective trials with paired liver biopsies and dose-response relationships, though adherence is noted as poor.
